The Unsigned

The Unsigned is an installation of 61 portraits of those who did not sign the Mayflower Compact "The Mayflower It being a  set of rules for self-governance established by the English settlers and has been considered a forerunner of what we consider to be democracy today.

Forty one of the 102 passengers were permitted to sign the document. Sixty-one did not sign due to being female, considered too young, being a servant, members of the crew, lacking social status and or not being a Puritan.

In a response to those overlooked a portrait has been painted to represent each individual of the silent majority.

Each painting is oil on board, 15x15cm
